Women on Wheels teams up with Onondaga Cycling Club!

What better way to celebrate summer in Syracuse, NY than to head outside for a bike ride? Syracuse Bicycle is teaming up with the Onondaga Cycling Club to bring you up to speed in the knowledge of bicycle riding. Whether you are entirely new to the sport, want to race, interested in triathlons, looking to get back in shape or just want to make some great friends in riding buddies; the Women on Wheels program is here to help you out. Our aim is to get you to love bike riding just as much as we do by creating a safe, friendly and FUN environment. Our hope is to build up your confidence by riding with other women and learning the basics of cycling.

We are currently leading out rides every Sunday at 8am, Tuesdays at 6pm and Thursdays at 9am. As the weather gets warmer and spring yields to summer those times and days may alter to fit your needs. But we will always be announcing the meetings places and times of our rides in our news letter and they will always be posted in the events section of our website.

New this year, Syracuse Bicycle has teamed up with Onondaga Cycling Club to help you get started on your goals even quicker. Come show up to your first Women on Wheels ride and fill out a Syracuse Bicycle waiver and simply ride! If you enjoyed the experience and would like to continue we kindly ask that you become an OCC member. The fee is a mere $20 for the entire year and it entitles you to the following: unlimited Women on Wheels ride (they will be expanding into the summer with more intermediate rides as well!), unlimited Onondaga Cycling Club rides that have also already started and lead out multiple times a week, and you will also receive the club member discount whenever you come into Syracuse Bicycle- 10% on parts and accessories (cash and checks are accepted and can be made out to Onondaga Cycling Club).

Women on Wheels are NO DROP rides. That means there will always be a leader bringing up the rear to make sure no rider is left behind. Course maps provided, so you can feel free to ride ahead if you want. No need to RSVP, just show up! A brief lesson and discussion will be held first regarding the topic of the day; dressing for the weather, shifting properly, bike maintenance, etc. Helmets and waiver required. But don’t forget to bring some water!

Every ride will have a ride leader; someone savvy and knowledgeable to answer any questions you may have. Make sure you come to the ride with either their number (which will be posted along with name on every ride in the Events sections of our site) or the shop’s in case you are running late or unsure whether you are in the correct place. The ride leader, regardless of weather, will always show up to the meeting location. If the weather is questionable the leader will make a judgment call at the time of the ride but will always show up planning to ride.

Beginner rides are held on Mondays at 6pm and Thursdays at 9am. Intermediate rides are on Tuesdays at 6pm. Locations will change every week so be sure to check the events sections of our website regularly!
