Syracuse Bicycle announces the 2016 XTERRA Syracuse Off-Road Triathlon, XTERRA 10K & 20K Trail Runs, and Kids Triathlon. The date for this year’s event is Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, NY.  Set in the rolling heartland of Central New York amidst historic sites, rolling upland forest, and glacial lakes, XTERRA Syracuse is the perfect venue for the seasoned off-road triathlete to pick up national qualifying points or a great opportunity for the road triathlete wanting to try out a mountain bike triathlon for the first time.

The XTERRA Syracuse Triathlon features a 1000 meter swim in the crystal clear waters of Green Lake. It’s one of the most scenic swims in the state with gorgeous rolling forest on three sides and a sandy beach entry.  Once out of the water, athletes will transition to their mountain bikes and immediately head out onto a bike course that favors fitness over technical skill.  The 20K bike course takes place in Green Lakes State Park’s mountain biking trails – some great double track, decent single track in parts, and a few more technical rocky/rooty sections.

The XTERRA 10K & 20K Trail Runs take place on the running trails in the Green Lakes State Park, the same trails as the run portion of the triathlon.  The 10K trail run course heads uphill first through the campground/cabin area and the rugged south Shore trails above the lakeside path and then returns to a flat, fast finish along the lake. Like the bike course, the run will feature outstanding scenery and, of course, hills! 20K runners will complete two loops of the 10K course.

The Kids Triathlon gives you a chance to introduce your kids to the sport of triathlon.  The 11 to 15 year olds will swim 200 yards, bike 8K, and run 2K.  This race will be timed, so parents are invited to spectate and cheer only.  New this year is the USAT Splash and Dash Aquathlon – a non-competitive event designed to encourage kids to experience the fun of multisport racing. Racers aged 11-15 years will swim 200 meters and run 2 kilometers, while racers aged 7-10 will swim 100 meters and run 1 kilometer. Parents may accompany their children aged 7-10 the whole way, on foot only.

In the race’s third year, we’ve aimed at bringing you the perfect off-road triathlon for beginners to experts, with a course designed so that anyone can have fun and everyone will be challenged.

The race’s Presenting Sponsor is Bousquet Holstein PLLC, a versatile law firm representing clients across many industries. The firm’s clientele is comprised of businesses and individual clients for whom they provide legal advice and counsel on a broad range of matters covering 27 different practice areas.
