Whether you are entirely new to cycling, interested in triathlons, looking to get into shape, or just want to make some great friends, the Syracuse Bicycle Women on Wheels Cycling Program is here to help you out. By riding with other women and learning the basics of cycling, we build up your confidence with every ride. Our aim is to get you to love riding your bike just as much as we do by creating a safe, friendly and fun environment.
Women on Wheels – affectionately known as “WOW” – is an instructional, “no drop” cycling program. The first 15-20 minutes of each ride is dedicated to teaching you more about how to be a more confident cyclist, including flat repair, how to shift, pedaling efficiently, even what to wear when riding. No drop means there will always be a ride leader bringing up the rear to make sure no rider is left behind. We ride alongside you as well, teaching you how to get the most enjoyment out of your time in the saddle.
We offer two levels: Beginner WOW for inexperienced riders, and Advanced WOW for the graduates of our previous sessions looking for a fun and social group ride. Beginner WOW riders only need to have a bicycle in good working order and must be able to ride in a straight line.
There is no longer a program fee to participate in Advanced WOW, except for the USA Cycling “I Want to Ride” membership fee of $50. Advanced WOW rides will not have a coach accompanying riders. Instead riders will rely on the skills they’ve learned in Beginner WOW to have an awesome group ride experience with other WOW graduates. Ride maps will be provided.
Beginner and Advanced WOW meets on Wednesdays at 6:00pm and Sundays at 8:00am at various locations.
NEW THIS YEAR: Women on Wheels is getting a little “wild” with an introductory mountain biking program just for women – Syracuse Bicycle Women in the Wild! We’ll cover all the basics of riding off-road, including proper position on the bike, climbing & descending, going over obstacles (logs, rock gardens) and cornering on tight, twisty single track. No experience necessary! This program will meet at Green Lakes, Great Bear and Highland Forest on Tuesdays at 6:00pm and Saturdays at 8:00am.
Beginner 10-week sessions costs a total of $120. Your program fee includes two 90-min cycling classes each week, a Syracuse Bicycle custom WOW Cycling Jersey, and a Syracuse Bicycle discount of 15% on clothing and accessories and 10% discount on bikes, car racks and Garmin products.
