Whether you are entirely new to cycling, interested in triathlons, looking to get into shape, or just want to make some great friends, the Syracuse Bicycle Women on Wheels Cycling Program is here to help you out. By riding with other women and learning the basics of cycling, we build up your confidence with every ride. Our aim is to get you to love riding your bike just as much as we do by creating a safe, friendly and fun environment.
Women on Wheels – affectionately known as “WOW” – is an instructional, “no drop” road cycling program. The first 15-20 minutes of each class is dedicated to teaching you more about how to be a more confident cyclist, including flat repair, how to shift, pedaling efficiently, even what to wear when riding. No drop means there will always be a ride leader bringing up the rear to make sure no rider is left behind. We ride alongside you as well, teaching you how to get the most enjoyment out of your time in the saddle.
NEW FOR 2017: Beginner WOW for inexperienced riders is now held ONLY on Sundays. Advanced WOW for the graduates of our previous sessions looking for a fun and social group ride is held on both Wednesdays and Sundays. Beginner WOW riders only need to have a bicycle in good working order and must be able to ride in a straight line.
Want a great off-road experience? Syracuse Bicycle Women in the Wild returns for another season with both beginner trail riding session on Saturdays and a fun women-only experienced group mountain bike ride on both Tuesdays and Saturdays! On Saturdays, we’ll cover all the basics of riding off-road, including proper position on the bike, climbing & descending, going over obstacles (logs, rock gardens) and cornering on tight, twisty single track. For the Saturday class – no experience necessary, but riders must have a mountain bike with at least 2 inch wide tires and a front suspension fork. Demo bikes available.
Road Session: Sunday, June 25, 2017 – Saturday, September 30, 2017. Our Spring session will prepare you for the 25 or 50-mile Syracuse Bicycle Breast Cancer Awareness Ride on Saturday, September 30, 2017
Mountain Session: Saturday, June 24, 2017 – Saturday, September 30, 2017.
Your program fee includes one 90-min cycling class each week, a Syracuse Bicycle discount of 15% on clothing and accessories and 10% discount on bikes, car racks and Garmin products. You are also required to join USA Cycling as an “I Want to Ride” member (cost $50) for insurance purposes. Syracuse Bicycle WOW Jerseys will be available for purchase separately.
