BEGINNER WOW – INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM FOR BEGINNER WOMEN RIDERS

Whether you are entirely new to cycling, interested in triathlons, looking to get into shape, or just want to make some great friends, the Syracuse Bicycle Women on Wheels Cycling Program is here for you. By riding with other women and learning the basics of cycling, we build up your confidence with every ride. Our aim is to get you to love riding your bike just as much as we do by creating a safe, friendly and fun environment.

Beginner Women on Wheels – affectionately known as “WOW” – is an instructional, “no drop” road cycling program. The first 15-20 minutes of each class is dedicated to teaching you more about how to be a more confident cyclist, including flat repair, how to shift, pedaling efficiently, even what to wear when riding. No drop means there will always be a ride leader bringing up the rear to make sure no rider is left behind. We ride alongside you as well, teaching you how to get the most enjoyment out of your time in the saddle. Beginner WOW riders only need to have a bicycle in good working order and must be able to ride in a straight line.

Beginner Women in the Wild introduces you to riding off-road on our local trails. We’ll teach you the basics of riding off-road, including proper position on the bike, climbing & descending, going over obstacles (logs, rock gardens) and cornering on tight, twisty single track. No experience necessary, but riders must have a mountain bike with at least 2″ wide tires and a front suspension fork. Demo bikes available on a limited basis.


ADVANCED WOW CYCLING CLUB – FOR EXPERIENCED RIDERS

Advanced Women on Wheels is a group ride for experienced women cyclists held on both Wednesdays and Sundays, May through October. A volunteer group ride leader will be there to guide you on either an A- or B-ride. The A-ride is for women who want a faster-paced ride (15-18mph on average) with minimal stops. The B-ride is our social ride; 15 mph max with stops to look at the scenery, converse with the cows or grab an ice cream!

Advanced Women in the Wild is a group mountain bike ride for experienced women mountain bikers. Held on Tuesdays and Saturdays, June through August.
