Women On Wheels

What better way to welcome back spring in Syracuse, NY than to head outside for a bike ride? Whether you are entirely new to the sport, want to race, interested in triathlons, looking to get back in shape or just want to make some great friends and riding buddies; Syracuse Bicycle’s Women on Wheels program is here to help you out. Our aim is to get you to love bike riding just as much as we do by creating a safe, friendly and FUN environment. Our hope is to build up your confidence by riding with other women and learning the basics of cycling.

We’ve moved indoors for the winter, but look for a full schedule of Women on Wheels rides in the spring!

Syracuse Bicycle is proud to partner with both the Onondaga Cycling Club and the Central New York Triathlon Club with this excited and fun program to help women become more confident on our local roadways. You’re welcome to show up to your first Women on Wheels ride and fill out a Syracuse Bicycle waiver and simply ride! If you enjoyed the experience and would like to continue we kindly ask that you become an OCC or CNY Triathlon member. The fee is a mere $20 ($25 for Tri Club) for the entire year and it entitles you to the following: unlimited Women on Wheels rides (they will be expanding into the summer with more intermediate rides as well!), unlimited Onondaga Cycling Club rides that have also already started and lead out multiple times a week, and access to Wednesday night practice triathlons at Jamesville Beach or Oneida Shores.

Women on Wheels are NO DROP rides. That means there will always be a leader bringing up the rear to make sure no rider is left behind. Course maps provided, so you can feel free to ride ahead if you want. No need to RSVP, just show up! A brief lesson and discussion will be held first regarding the topic of the day; dressing for the weather, shifting properly, bike maintenance, etc. Helmets and waiver required. But don’t forget to bring some water!
Every ride will have a ride leader; someone savvy and knowledgeable to answer any questions you may have. Make sure you come to the ride with either their number (which will be posted along with name on every ride in the Events sections of our site) or the shop’s, in case you are running late or unsure whether you are in the correct place. The ride leader, regardless of weather, will always show up to the meeting location. If the weather is questionable the leader will make a judgment call at the time of the ride but will always show up planning to ride.
To receive emails detailing the week’s rides, email trish.

Every women of any experience is welcome and encouraged to attend!
